Commuting from Magnolia

Quieter than the city center, but well-connected to it. Here's how people actually get from the Magnolia peninsula to work and back.

Updated 2026 · By the Magnolia Crestview leasing team · Times are approximate and traffic-dependent

One of Magnolia's quiet advantages is that it feels tucked away while staying close to Seattle's major job centers. The peninsula connects to the rest of the city through a handful of arteries, which keeps the neighborhood calm — and means a little route knowledge goes a long way.

By car

Magnolia links to the city via the Magnolia Bridge and W Garfield Street, plus the Dravus Street and W Emerson connections to 15th Ave W. Rough off-peak driving times from the neighborhood:

Peak-hour traffic on 15th Ave W and the bridges adds time, so most commuters learn to flex their start times.

By bus

King County Metro serves Magnolia with routes connecting the village and surrounding streets to downtown (routes such as the 24 and 33), with additional service through nearby Interbay. From downtown you can transfer to the regional network, including Link light rail, for trips farther afield.

By bike

Cyclists can drop down to the Elliott Bay Trail through Interbay and follow a largely flat, scenic waterfront route into downtown — roughly half an hour of riding, with views the whole way. It's one of the nicer bike commutes in the city.

By water & rail

For commutes across Puget Sound, Washington State Ferries depart from downtown's Colman Dock. Sound Transit's Link light rail doesn't run directly through Magnolia, but it's an easy connection once you're downtown — useful for the airport, the U-District, and points south.

The bottom line

Magnolia gives you a genuine residential retreat that's still a short trip from where Seattle works. If your days run through downtown, South Lake Union, Ballard, or Interbay, the commute is very manageable — and you come home to quiet streets and Discovery Park.
